CurbMate Cancellation & Refund Policy
Effective Date: September 14, 2026 · Last Updated: September 14, 2026
This Cancellation & Refund Policy applies to subscriptions and services purchased from Haneul Oh & Ibrahim Burrow, operating as CurbMate (“CurbMate,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
This Policy should be read together with the CurbMate Terms of Service.
1. Monthly Subscriptions
CurbMate subscriptions are billed monthly and automatically renew each month until cancelled.
You may cancel your monthly subscription at any time.
CurbMate does not charge a cancellation fee.
Cancellation stops future subscription renewals but does not normally result in a refund for the portion of the current monthly billing period that remains unused.
Nothing in this Policy limits any cancellation or refund right provided by applicable law.
2. How to Cancel
You may cancel your CurbMate subscription using any cancellation method we make available, including:
- your CurbMate customer account or subscription portal; or
- contacting us at curbmateisland@gmail.com.
When submitting a cancellation request, please provide enough information for us to identify your account.
Once your cancellation has been processed, you will receive confirmation.
We recommend keeping your cancellation confirmation for your records.
3. When Cancellation Takes Effect
Unless otherwise stated or required by law, cancellation prevents your subscription from renewing for another monthly billing period.
If you have already paid for the current billing period, CurbMate may continue providing your service through the end of that paid period.
You may ask us to stop service earlier, but voluntarily ending service before the end of an already-paid monthly period does not normally create a right to a prorated refund.
4. Refunds for a Started Billing Period
Subscription payments are generally non-refundable once the applicable monthly billing period has begun.
CurbMate does not normally provide prorated refunds for:
- cancelling partway through a monthly billing period;
- choosing not to use the service;
- temporarily being away from the property;
- voluntarily ending service early; or
- failing to present accessible containers for service.
This does not affect refund rights required by law or refunds expressly approved by CurbMate under this Policy.
5. Missed Service Caused by CurbMate
If CurbMate fails to perform a scheduled bin-valet service because of an error within CurbMate's reasonable control, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.
Depending on the circumstances, we may provide an appropriate remedy such as:
- completing the service where collection has not yet occurred and completion is reasonably possible;
- providing a service credit;
- refunding an amount reasonably attributable to the affected service; or
- providing another appropriate remedy.
The remedy will depend on the circumstances of the missed service.
A single missed service does not automatically entitle a customer to a refund of the entire monthly subscription where other services during that billing period were successfully provided, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
6. Municipal Collection Failures
CurbMate moves eligible containers to and from the designated municipal collection location.
CurbMate does not collect or dispose of the contents of the containers.
If CurbMate correctly places your eligible containers for collection but the municipality or another collection provider fails to collect them, this generally does not qualify as a missed CurbMate service or automatically entitle you to a refund.
Examples may include:
- delayed municipal collection;
- cancelled municipal collection;
- municipal staffing or vehicle issues;
- municipal route changes;
- rejected contents;
- contaminated recycling;
- overweight containers;
- prohibited materials; or
- another decision or failure of the collection provider.
Where practical, CurbMate may attempt to accommodate known collection delays, but this is not guaranteed.
7. Inaccessible Containers or Property
A refund or service credit will not normally be issued where CurbMate could not complete service because the customer failed to provide reasonable and safe access to the containers.
Examples include:
- a locked gate;
- incorrect access instructions;
- containers not being at their designated location;
- blocked pathways;
- aggressive or unsecured animals;
- unsafe stairs or surfaces;
- excessive snow or ice caused by property conditions;
- construction hazards;
- containers that are excessively heavy, damaged, or unsafe to move; or
- other unsafe or inaccessible conditions under the customer's reasonable control.
CurbMate personnel are not required to enter or remain in a situation they reasonably consider unsafe.
8. Weather and Events Outside CurbMate's Control
Service may occasionally be delayed, modified, or suspended because of circumstances outside CurbMate's reasonable control.
Examples include:
- severe weather;
- snow or ice;
- flooding;
- wildfire;
- earthquake;
- road closures;
- municipal service disruptions;
- government orders;
- emergencies; or
- other conditions that make service unsafe or impractical.
These circumstances do not automatically entitle a customer to a refund.
However, if a substantial portion of paid CurbMate service cannot be provided, CurbMate may determine that a service credit, partial refund, or other remedy is appropriate.
Nothing in this section limits rights provided by applicable law.
9. Incorrect Charges
If you believe CurbMate has charged you incorrectly, please contact us at curbmateisland@gmail.com.
Examples may include:
- duplicate charges;
- an incorrect subscription amount;
- a charge after a properly completed cancellation;
- an incorrect promotional amount; or
- another billing error.
If we confirm that an incorrect charge occurred, we will correct the error and provide any appropriate refund.
10. Charges After Cancellation
Once a cancellation becomes effective, CurbMate will not intentionally charge another subscription renewal.
If a subscription renewal is charged after a cancellation should have taken effect, please contact us.
If we confirm that the charge was made in error, we will refund the incorrect charge.
11. Promotions and Discounts
Promotional credits and discounts generally:
- have no cash value;
- cannot be redeemed for cash;
- apply only according to the terms of the applicable promotion; and
- are not refundable separately from the underlying purchase.
For example, a $5 first-month waitlist discount reduces the amount charged for an eligible first month but does not create a separate $5 cash entitlement.
If a refund is required for a transaction involving a promotional discount, the refund will generally be based on the amount actually paid, subject to applicable law.
12. Waitlist
Joining the CurbMate waitlist is free.
Because no payment is required to join the waitlist, there is generally no payment to refund.
You may ask to leave the waitlist at any time.
Joining the waitlist does not automatically activate a paid CurbMate subscription.
13. Refunds Required by Law
Nothing in this Policy removes or limits rights that customers have under applicable consumer-protection legislation.
In certain circumstances, British Columbia law may give a customer the right to cancel a contract and receive a refund.
These circumstances may include situations where applicable legal requirements concerning:
- pre-contract disclosures;
- contract contents;
- delivery of a required contract copy;
- supply of the purchased services; or
- other consumer-protection requirements
have not been satisfied.
Where applicable law requires CurbMate to issue a refund following a valid cancellation, CurbMate will provide the refund within the legally required period and using the method required by law.
14. Refund Method
Approved refunds will normally be returned to the original payment method used for the transaction unless another method is required by law or reasonably necessary because the original method is unavailable.
Processing times after CurbMate issues a refund may vary depending on the customer's bank, card issuer, or payment provider.
15. Service Credits
In some circumstances, CurbMate may provide a service credit instead of or in addition to another remedy.
A discretionary service credit:
- is not cash;
- normally applies to future CurbMate charges;
- may have reasonable conditions communicated when it is issued; and
- does not replace a cash refund where a cash refund is legally required.
16. Changes to This Policy
CurbMate may update this Cancellation & Refund Policy from time to time.
Any changes will apply prospectively and will not remove refund or cancellation rights already provided by applicable law.
CurbMate will not change cancellation, return, exchange, or refund terms for an existing subscription in a manner prohibited by applicable consumer-protection law.
Where advance notice or customer agreement is legally required, CurbMate will provide it.
